After leaving the Cameron Highlands behind us, we make our way to the Perhentian Islands on the other side of Malaysia. We have fun there snorkeling and sea kayaking. I did not document our adventures as my camera was not waterproof.
The weather was not ideal as every night there was big storms, but still good fun. We decide to leave the islands and make our way back to the main land. We reach the city of Kota Bharu. It is not a super charming town and feels really out-of-the-way.
After hanging out there a bit, we make our way to Kuala Terengganu further south where we just spend one evening. It has a very nice old Chinatown.
After heavy bus travelling which takes a bit of hit on us, we arrive finally at our destination in the center of the country, the venerable Taman Negara (which means “National Park”), which houses the old tropical forest in the world (130 million years old!). It is our first true jungle experience and it is very interesting! During this visit, we manage to see an elephant in the wild one early morning (was not able to capture that on camera), it was truly an experience of a lifetime.
Yes, these are ants! A river of them!
